Real, or we don't sell it
Every product in The Skin Lineup is genuine. That isn't a feature we charge extra for — it's the baseline. We think real skincare, at a fair price, should be the normal thing in Sri Lanka, not the premium option.
So we're not going to spend this page frightening you about fakes. Counterfeits exist, and we'll show you exactly how to spot them. But our job is simpler than scaring you: we choose a small, careful lineup, we check it, and we price it honestly. This page shows you how we do that — and how you can check any product yourself, from us or from anyone else.
Where our products come from
We don't buy from random online marketplaces, liquidation lots, or sellers we can't trace. Our stock comes through an established wholesale distribution hub in Dubai — one of the main points where Korean brands reach this part of the world through proper channels.
From there, the path is short and we stay on it the whole way:
- Korean brands manufacture and release the products.
- A trusted Dubai distributor receives them through authorised regional supply.
- We hand-pick each item from that stock — only the SKUs in our lineup, nothing we haven't checked.
- It comes to Sri Lanka and to you, with as much shelf life ahead of it as possible.
Because our lineup is deliberately small, stock moves quickly and doesn't sit in a warehouse for years. A short list is easier to keep fresh than a catalogue of a thousand things — that's one of the quiet advantages of curating instead of stocking everything.
What we check before it reaches you
Every unit passes a simple set of checks before we list it or send it out:
- Seals intact. Factory outer wrap, inner foil spouts, and brand shrink-wrap are in place and untouched.
- Print is clean. Korean and English text is sharp and correctly spelled, with no blurry fonts or crooked labels.
- Dates are good. We read the manufacture and expiry dates on each item and keep the freshest stock — if something is close to expiry, it doesn't go on the shelf.
- Batch codes match. The code on the box lines up with the code on the bottle or tube.
If anything looks off, it doesn't get sold. That's the whole rule.
How to check it yourself
You should never have to take our word for it. Here are the same checks we use — do them on anything you buy, from us or anywhere else.
1. Read the dates. Korean packs print a manufacture date and a use-by date, usually as YYYY.MM.DD. Look for 제조 (manufactured) and 사용기한 or 까지 (use by / until), printed on the base of bottles and jars, the crimp seam of tubes, or the carton. A clearly printed expiry date is the one to trust.
2. Scan the brand's QR or smart seal, if it has one. Some brands carry an anti-counterfeit smart label — for example HiddenTag, which you scan with its app to confirm the product against the brand's records. Not every brand uses one, so a missing seal doesn't mean a fake, but a seal that won't scan is a red flag.
3. Use the new Korean government check. South Korea has started rolling out an official "K-Brand" QR certification you scan straight from your phone, no app needed. Coverage is still growing, but if a product carries it, it's a strong signal.
4. Decode the batch code. Free sites like lotdate.com or checkcosmetic.net will turn a batch code into a manufacture date so you can confirm the product isn't old.
5. Look at the print and the seams. Genuine packaging has crisp Korean and English text, no spelling mistakes, straight labels, and clean seals. Fakes usually get the overall look right but slip on the fine details.
One honest caveat. No single one of these is proof on its own. A batch code only tells you a date — a counterfeiter can copy a real one onto a fake. That's exactly why where you buy from matters as much as what's printed on the box. Trusted sourcing and your own checks work together; neither replaces the other.
What real looks like
A quick reference for the five things worth checking. The left column is what you should see on a genuine product; the right is what tends to give a fake away.
| What to check | On a genuine product | Warning sign on a fake |
|---|---|---|
| Print quality | Crisp, fine Korean and English text, correctly spelled | Blurry, thick, or smudged text; spelling or font errors |
| Seals | Factory outer wrap, foil inner spout, or shrink-wrap intact | Missing, loose, or already-broken seals |
| Batch & dates | Clean YYYY.MM.DD dates; box code matches bottle code | Missing dates, rub-off ink, or codes that don't match |
| Verification seal | Brand QR or smart seal scans and confirms | No seal where the brand normally has one, or a seal that won't scan |
| Price | Fair, in line with the real market after import costs | Suspiciously cheap — far below what the product normally costs |
On price: a fair price is not a warning sign and a cheap price is not a bargain. If something is 50–70% below what everyone else charges, ask why before you buy.
Our promise
Every product we sell is genuine. If you ever receive something from us and you're not sure — about the seal, the batch code, the dates, anything — message us. We'll walk through the checks with you, and if a product we sent isn't right, we'll make it right.
That's the deal: real products, fair prices, and nothing to hide from you.
